Wendy's list of accomplishments as an active 

Dekalb County resident from 1988-1996:

 

Acted as Neighborhood Watch Coordinator for Leisure Valley Community.

 

Initiated contact with Bob Ingles of the Ingles Food Stores. He funded a fence surrounding the community to aid in crime prevention. Later, he also gave funds for the East Precinct Bike Patrol program.

 

 Started the Adopt-A-Cop program in 1994, which is a partnership between police and active communities who could qualify.

 

 

GUIDELINES FOR THE “ADOPT A COP” PROGRAM IN DEKALB COUNTY

 To qualify for the “Adopt A Cop” program, your community must have an active Neighborhood Watch program for at least one year.

 

 

1.     The community should have at least one large community meeting per year to keep crime prevention goals updated.

 

2.     The Neighborhood Watch Coordinator should get a crime update report from the Crime Awareness Officer every three months.

 

3.     A newsletter should go out to the neighborhood every other month to inform the community on neighborhood concerns

        and   goals.

 

4.     There should be a current list of block captains, updated every six months.

 

5.     The community must have shown a reduction in crime since the initiation of their Neighborhood Watch program.

 

6.     Positive youth activities are encouraged within the neighborhood such as distributing newsletters, cleaning vacant lots, etc.

 

7.     Communities that are selected as “Community of the Year~’ by the County automatically qualify as candidates for the

        “Adopt A   Cop” program.

 

 

 

Petitioned for the return of the East Precinct Sub-Station at Panola and Covington. We had over 1,000 signatures from businesses and communities.

 

 

Helped coordinate the grand opening of the sub-station. Present were many departments and county officials.

 

 

Help raise funds for the C.O.P.S program, when bikes were needed for East Precinct. Many local banks contributed, as well as Quick Trip, who donated 2,000.00.

 

Encouraged county officials to make a pro-police video to inform the public about their police officers. The project took over 1 year to complete, and now airs on Dekalb cable. It is titled "Behind the Badge". The CEO even rode with the Cobra units to understand how they operate.

 

 

Helped to select music for "Behind the Badge".

Received 3 awards, 2 from Dekalb Police, and 1 from Panola/Covington Business Watch Program.
